Setup / customer-owned collection

Session replay on your own domain.

Load the recorder and send events through a verified HTTPS subdomain of your website. Here’s the path from a new project to your first replay.

1. Choose a collection hostname

Open your workspace and create a project with the exact origin of your website, such as https://example.com. Choose a dedicated subdomain for collection, such as crumbs.example.com.

This hostname serves both the browser SDK and event requests. You control its DNS; Glowcrumb runs the collection service. This is customer-owned domain delivery, not self-hosted data storage.

2. Verify ownership and HTTPS

In the project’s domain settings, copy the TXT ownership record exactly as shown. It uses _glowcrumb. followed by your collection hostname and a project-specific verification value.

Add a DNS-only CNAME from your collection hostname to collect.glowcrumb.com. If your DNS provider offers proxying, leave this record unproxied.

Choose Check domain in Glowcrumb. Collection becomes active only after ownership, DNS, and the HTTPS certificate are ready. DNS and certificate changes can take time; a saved record alone does not mean collection is active.

3. Install your project’s script

Copy the installation snippet from Settings into your website. Use the generated snippet so the hostname and project ID match your project.

If your site has a Content Security Policy, allow the collection hostname in script-src and connect-src. Do not replace your existing policy with a wildcard.

Recording starts automatically by default. If your site waits for consent, choose the consent integration before installing: it adds data-consent="required" and provides load-safe start() and stop() hooks for your existing consent manager.

Review masking, consent, and private-content controls before recording real visits.

4. Check your first replay

Visit the configured website, interact with a public page, then return to Sessions. Open the recording and check that the page is understandable and private content stays masked.

Test important forms and excluded pages yourself. To get evidence-linked AI suggestions, connect your chosen provider in Settings, set a daily limit, and analyze a recording with friction markers.

If collection is still waiting

  • Check that the TXT name and value match the project settings.
  • Confirm the CNAME is DNS-only and points to collect.glowcrumb.com.
  • Wait for ownership and HTTPS to show active, then check the domain again.
  • Match your exact website origin, including www if you use it.
  • Check your site’s CSP, consent state, opt-out state, and excluded paths.

Using your own hostname reduces reliance on shared tracking hosts. It does not guarantee delivery through every browser protection or blocklist.
